Following huge success in Germany (Alte Oper), the South Bank London and the USA now in the Palais des Beaux-Arts!
A concert to present modern Greek literature in both spoken and in musical settings with the Grand Seigneurs of Greek Poetry Constantine P. Cavafy, Giorgos Seferis (Nobel Prize), Yannis Ritsos and Odysseas Elytis (Nobel Prize). UNESCO has declared 2013 as the Year of Constantine P. Cavafy (1863-1933) to mark the 150th anniversary of this world-renowned poet's birth. Cavafy, one of the most influential literary figures of the Hellenic world in the early 20th century was a founding father of modern Greek poetry and at the same time paved new paths for both European and Greek poetry using language in an innovative way.
With the voice of the outstanding Greek singer Alexandra Gravas you will embark on a Hellenic journey spanning a century of songs...some still to be discovered and some that have already travelled the world of music...the songs of Mikis Theodorakis. "(...) her greatest ability is that of singing straight from the heart so that her music resonates in the heart of the listener." Louis des Bernières.
She is joined by the pianist Pantelis Polychronidis. Proceeds of this evening go to the charity Panos & Cressida 4 Life www.panosandcressida4life.org.
